PEACE AT CHRISTMAS

Peace. That is the promise of Christmas. A gift that we can unwrap again and again. Paul tells us in Philippians that the Holy Spirit gives us a “peace that passes understanding,” or as Eugene Peterson puts it, “Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

One way to find that peace is to spend five minutes each day in prayer and meditation. One way of doing that is with a breath prayer- repeating a simple phrase, like “Nothing can separate me from the love of God,” or Peace that passes understanding” for five minutes, allowing the phrase to come together with your breath.

We all know that the holidays can feel hectic and overwhelming, but God who created us and who loves us wants something different for us. God wants us to know that Peace. This Christmas season, give yourself the gift of peace.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Deborah
